Dr. Gee earned her Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a faculty member at GW since 2001. Her interests lie in the determinants of relationship quality and stability with a particular focus on the influence of social networks as a risk and protective factor. She examines romantic and family relationships within a cultural context and the ways in which couples and families cope with stressful life transitions. Her primary research focus is on father involvement and coparenting in low-income and ethnic minority parents. A second line of research examines culturally relevant barriers to professional mental health service use among Asian and Asian American emerging adults. A third line of research involves the validation of a social support measure for use among first-generation college students.
